I know you’ve heard this before, but the upcoming 2018 midterm elections are the most important elections of our lifetimes. A wannabe dictator has taken over as president while his minions gather around him to protect his many violations of the Constitution. He’s past massive tax cuts for the wealthy to exacerbate income inequality and is always fighting for corporations over individual citizens. View their financial information on Open Secrets.
In fact, this entire midterm election cycle will be about money in politics. That’s why I’m keeping an eye on a political action committee known as End Citizens United. This inspiring group is traveling around the country in order to endorse the right candidates. There’s only one requirement — the candidate must promise to end Citizens United once in office.
Unfortunately, the entire Republican Party stands behind the most disastrous Supreme Court decision in the history of the United States. Five conservative Supreme Court justices completely changed campaign finance laws across the land when they ruled that corporations are people back in 2010. These “people” have the same protections as American citizens. This allows the corporation to express free speech with the spending of cash through political action committees to influence elections. It’s the most insane thing I’ve ever heard.
End Citizens United agrees. That’s why they are left to endorse only Democratic candidates across the country. They are in Texas right now using their grassroots organizational skills to aid Beto O’Rourke in his bid to unseat Citizens United-lover Ted Cruz. O’Rourke doesn’t take a penny from corporations which makes him the poster child of End Citizens United. Follow the group on facebook.com.
End Citizens United has also dispatched lawyers to states like Florida to watch Republican candidates for any campaign finance violations. They’ve already filed suit against Rick Scott as he runs for Senate in the Sunshine State. He’s been caught coordinating with his Super PAC in order to gain an unfair advantage over his Democratic opponent.
The gorup envisions a time when the individual voter will be unencumbered at the ballot box. They want to restore the United States of America back to a time when one person gets one vote.
