Green Structure Homes, LLC, also known as GSH of Alabama, is a contracting company specializing in disaster relief construction and delivery of homes. They literally build “hurricane-proof” modular homes (to your customization and preference), and deliver them to anywhere in North America. They even offer the option of on-site construction, rather than building the home in Huntsville and then taking it to its destination. Once the house is at the specified destination (if it was built off-site in Huntsville), it takes just a couple of days to place the house on the lot and get it up and running. GSH of Alabama is located in Huntsville, Alabama. The company builds houses that are strong enough to withstand hurricane conditions that are up to 130 miles per hour. Because the homes are “hurricane-proof”, the materials used to build these houses are all mold, mildew and pest resistant. All of the materials used in building the homes are energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
Along with her husband, Scott, Barbara Stokes is the founder and CEO of the company. GSH of Alabama aides with disaster relief alongside FEMA. There is an article published on June 1, 2018 titled, Barbara Stokes Leads Relief Construction that goes into detail. Barbara and her husband made a point to cover as many bases as possible with their company. Displaced hurricane survivors have temporary housing, and sometimes FEMA provides them with a mobile home for the family to live. However, it is only temporary housing and the family still has nowhere to go. A GSH of Alabama home is permanent.
With this endeavor, Barbara has been able to merge her business, engineering, and humanitarian efforts. She is also breaking critical ground. While 40 percent of college graduates with engineering degrees are women, only 13 percent actually work in the engineering field. That number has been steadily decreasing because of the subliminal sexist culture of the profession.
